Bio

My name is Carmen Cobian; I am an explorer, creator, and a kid at heart. I love to explore and try new things, growing up, I developed an interest in astronomy, geology, music, and art. My hobbies aside from art are writing poetry, going out on my longboard throughout Stockton and taking photos, I also love going to cars shows, and stargazing in my backyard. Though I have many hobbies and interest, art has always been my true passion. I love just about any form of art from theater arts, and music, to drawing and painting. I grew up having something in my hand to help me create something new. If I didn’t have a pencil or paintbrush in my hand, I had my camera or some martial for my latest sculptor.

I am Mexican-American, and many of my art pieces are greatly inspired by my cultural heritage and history. Since a young age, the celebration behind Day of the Dead had always fascinated me. The meaning behind the holiday and the colors and decoration are beyond beautiful. Some of my favorite artist and inspiration growing up are Diego Rivera, José Guadalupe Posada, and Carlos Amorales.

I always knew I wanted to have a career in art, I just didn't know what. I then learned about graphic design in high school, and I was hooked. The thing I love about graphic design is that it always me to combine all my interest into one. I can combine my interest in drawing and photography to help me create a great work of art. One of the things that I love about being a graphic designer is that it allows me to help clients see their dreams and visions come true. I help my client compose their dreams into reality.

Artist statement

There’s a meaning behind every building, every action, every image. Sometimes we can see it in a glance, simple yet powerful. Other times we argue with others or our self-conscious to figure out the meaning behind the artwork. As if the work is a great mystery behind life's greatest gifts and tragedies. By solving the mystery, we can have a better understanding of the world around us. Art has the power to help shape or reform one's thoughts and views. It is one of the things that makes art so beautiful.

Being born and raised in Stockton, California, I have had the opportunity to explore Stockton's hidden treasures and beauty. Through my work, I show the importance of buildings, people and the environment, and what it means to the community. My goal as an artist is to find California's hidden treasure and rebuild, portray, and argue their beauty to the viewer. I plan to continue this goal as a Graphic Designer that allows me to combine my love for photography, sculpting, and drawing into one to help achieve my goal.
